About the Department

The Department was established on 20th June 1959

The Faculty of the department is keenly interested to promote the interest towards English Language and Literature among students.

Therefore department is taking interest in organising workshops, seminars and conferences on different literary and lingustic themes.

The department has an Association with the name 'English Literary Association' under which the various competitions and activities for students are planned and organised.

Dr. Satyajit Kosambi
HOD

Dr. Satyajit Kosambi, born and brought up in Kolhapur has joined Sathaye College on 4th December, 2013. Before this, He worked with several Colleges and Institutes as Rajaram College, Kolhapur, R. C. Shahu College, Kolhapur and Jyoti College of It and Management, Kolhapur from 2006-07 to 2012-13. He has done M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D from Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

His areas of research and study are Indian Literature, Comparative Literature, Colonial- Post-colonial Literature, and Gender Studies. 

He has proposed a new theory in the field of Feminism called SAMYAK FEMINISM which is based on Buddhist philosophy and gender politics. He is also known as a Poet and Critic in Marathi Literary World. His Upcoming novel in English `Son of Sun` is based on the various social-political and individual revolutionary transformations in under-privileged masses.

Smt Panchshiela Mahale has joined the college from 18th of January 2014 as an Assistant Professor. Prior to this, she had been teaching in MotiLal Nehru College in Delhi University as an Assistant Professor (permanent faculty) since 2006 till 2014. She pursued her graduation and post-graduation from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University. She cleared the NET examination in 2006 and completed her Mphil from Delhi University in 2009. Her Areas of intertest include Gender Studies, Post-colonial studies, Greek Drama and British Period Literature especially Romantic Era and Victorian Era. At Present, she is persuing her PhD from North Maharashtra University.
